Doug bought this magazine - purely for the cover - on Saturday. It's the prettiest little illustration and I absolutely love the gesture of the little guy with the lasso. Having seen lots of old photos of Doug when he was a kid I know that he spent hours and hours practicing his roping on the farm with his dad. So, I'm sure that's another reason he bought this mag. The illustrator is well known American illustrator John Clymer.

Flashback
Every so often when I am posting here I notice something in LinkWithin that I had forgotten about. Yesterday I saw this magazine that I bought at a yard sale and posted here about 3 years ago. It's still one of my faves! Hope you like it as much as I do. I changed my blog tagline yesterday to "Look beyond the obvious & be inspired by the curious." I think it describes how we have evolved over the last few years :-)

Australian Home Beautiful
We are very excited and honoured to have the Cartolina app in Australian Home Beautiful this month. Here's a little clip of the page. We took the Cartolina brand into Australia last year and I'm very grateful to all our Australian fans for making it a huge success. Thank you!

Vintage Sewing Secrets
I thought this was very cute when I saw it at Sublime Stitchin. Great, vintage 1930's Sewing Secrets cover from Dominus Vobiscum's Flickr stream. I love that anyone would take the time to do a corded buttonhole! And note the instructions for a 'slide fastener' - not a zip!

Need a gift idea?
I miss magazines - don't you? I really notice it at this time of the year. I used to be so excited to get my Martha Stewart holiday mag every year and I have kept them all (as I'm sure many of you have.) We need to support print media. We all love the blogs but we need to make sure that no more of them fold. We need to keep our favourite publications alive by ordering subscriptions just like we used to before we all got obsessed by blogs. A magazine's bloodline is their advertising - and these days there is less and less advertising dollars - that's why some of the holiday magazines seem so thin this year. One of my new years resolutions is to support print media like I used to. We've all gotten very excited by some of the fabulous online magazines that have popped up in the last year - but let's not forget where it all started! Renew your subscriptions and give subscriptions for holiday gifts. It's great value and there's nothing like seeing all those mags in the mailbox every month.

Style Francais!
When I have spare time (like I have any of that!) I love to browse the pages of Marie Claire Idée. We are lucky in Canada because there's a good selection of French style magazines to be had at the news stand. And, you know what, they are so French, it's fabulous! So, if you're not in Canada and you'd love a little French flair, Marie Claire Idée is online - enjoy!
