More holiday pictures ;-)

I think I said this yesterday but I'm finding it quite tricky to edit and sort all the images that Doug took last week in SF. here are some of my favourites in the 'general' category! Tomorrow storefronts and vintage signage.

Eye candy

I ran across this pretty photograph by photographer Sandra Lane. The vintage sheet music displayed against the green panelling is wonderful, isn't it?

Inspiration - pattern

I featured some book photographs by Jelens a year or so ago but I was reminded how lovely they are when I stumbled upon this top photograph on Craftgawker the other day - submitted by See Me Everywhere. Aren't they wonderful? Thanks for the reminder!

Well hello! It's great to be back. I missed you! Just a quicky post today to say hello and say thanks to all of you who checked out the archives(and left lots of lovely comments) while we were away - hope you found some inspiration to keep you going while we took a brief, but fabulous, vacation to BC's west coast. Saltspring Island is one of my favourite places to visit in the summer - if you haven't been, then you must - just don't go on a Saturday when the population doubles for their famous farmer's market(I have to say it's one of the best.) We had a brilliant time visiting with our friends Martin and Cate from Blanket. Cate is simply the best host ever and we had lots of fun. I'm not going to bore you with hundreds of holiday snapshots but I am going to insist that you check out the vista from the top of Mount Maxwell(Saltspring) - it's breathtaking!
Have a great weekend - see you on Monday - bright and early, with all the usual fabulousness!!

Stylin'

I absolutely adore this stylist's work. Lula - you can see her work on her website and also on Flickr. She has a great sense of playfulness in her work. I haven't run across her photographs until recently and I can't get enough of them. Originally from Buenos Aires(a place I never spell correctly) and now living in New York. I think you will love her work too. Beautiful!

Photographer Louise Rastall
Beautiful, textural imagery from photographer Louise Rastall. Photographers and stylists have become a big resource for bloggers. It's hard to resist all their gorgeous work. I think you can really get to know a blogger by the imagery they post.

Flickr Love
I'm just getting the hang of Flickr and I am so amazed at the talented photographers who post their work for all to see. I just fell in love with the following images . They are from the following Flickr members, in order from top to bottom, weeshallmeet tanjatiziana, lightlycrazed and plautila. Let me know if you have a Flickr Photostream that you think I might like - I'm not a very good photographer - I'm working on it!

Inspiration | vintage photography
We have piles of vintage magazines in the studio and I troll through them all the time for inspiration when I am designing. I'm getting ready to design a new collection to go to print in May so I have my inspiration radar turned on all the time at the moment. Even just 15 minutes spent flipping through vintage fashion mags can really get my revved up with great colour combinations and composition ideas. These images are from here - I hope you like them as much as I do. The first 2 have the most dreamy colour palette and I love the way the bottom 3 are cropped.

Photographer | Jennifer Zahigian
I am really enjoying these images from Oakland artist Jennifer Zahigian, aka Roadside Photographer. Wonderful vintage colours and great old type - thought you might like them too.

Prop Stylist | Robyn Glaser
I love a photograph that I can get lost in - one with so much personality that I can barely believe that it is the product of a commercial photo shoot. Like this fabulous collection from prop stylist and set designer Robyn Glaser.
{I have a secret desire to be a prop stylist - I get very frustrated when I am taking photographs - especially product shots - they make it look so easy don't they?}

Back to our neck of the woods.
Well it's nice to be back here in BC after a very busy week on the other side of the continent. Our main purpose was to go to the Gift Show but we had loads of time to walk for miles and miles and be inspired by all that makes New York the fabulous city it is.
We collected a hopper full of blogging material but now I realize that I have A LOT of work to do to sort through all the photographs that Doug took. So the plan is to feature some of my favourite things from the Gift Show for the first few days this week and then starting maybe Wednesday or Thursday I would love to show you some of my favourite New York interiors, stores, streets, cafes, buildings etc. And yes I promise we will have pictures from the Martha show. Doug was the official Cartolina photographer and he did a great job - even though I kept asking him to leap out into oncoming traffic to take pictures for me - thanks Doug!

So check back often - the first few days of this week we will feature some wonderful indie producers that we met at the show and then New York stuff in the middle of the week ( I just have to sort through all the aprox 500 photographs - good grief!)

(And if you haven't visited Cafe Cartolina for a few days check out my posts from last Tuesday and Friday  for more NY images.)
