Random art of fabulosity

I ran across this the other day and I think it's so fab. I love drama in art - I'm not really into wishy washy colours - I like big, bold and colourful. There's certainly some drama going on here in this piece. Don't you love it? It has a vintage feel - I think it's the fantastical nature of the sea serpent and I love the big black heavy clouds. This is buy Dan Bob Thompson and can be yours for $25.

Inspiration - origami books

Isaac Salazar makes this look so easy - don't you just want to grab the closest book and start folding? I really love the giant capital letters and they'd look amazing on a shelf arranged as a word - like Cartolina for instance! You can see more of his work here! Via Recyclart.org

Ruffle your feathers!

I first spotted these watercolour painting by United Thread on the Paper Cakes blog. I really love how realistic these owls look, while at the same time so decorative. We see lots of owls around here and I always love how scruffy and ruffled(scruffled?) they look - just like these . . .

Aren't these wonderful? How unique and clever! Hand painted 'wooden clock hands' from Sandra Eterovic. Check out her store and while you're there take a look at the fabulous mirrors - pig tails anyone?

Inspiration - Lubna Chowdhary

This is the work of London ceramic artist Lubna Chowdhary. I noticed her pieces on Bloesem. I thought you would love to see the colours and textures of her work. I think her pieces look like enamel but they are hand applied glazes with incredible colour. The containers are wonderful - the choices of lids is incredible. Further down the post you will see some of her selection of hot plates and if you check out her website you will find an amazing selection of tiles(and her studio is fab!)

Doug Jones - vintage inspiration

You may, or may not, know that Doug is an illustrator. He works mostly for the Wall Street Journal and other US dailys. Every so often he illustrates some cards for us at Cartolina and he was the main force behind the Cartolina app(Oh, did I mention we have another app releasing in about 2 weeks?) Anyway, every so often I troll through Doug's great big folder of inspiration on his desk top to see what's new - here's what caught my eye yesterday. . . . .

Found - 20 x 200

I found myself yesterday, after following a link from Layers and Layers, at 20 x 200. And then promptly found myself in front of these lovely prints by Joe Kievitt. The colours are wonderful - a collection of muted tones that come together to create a vibrant, colour filled, buzz. They practically vibrate don't they?

ffffound - graphic design

Some awfully beautiful and interesting things I have found at www.ffffound.com recently.

Incredible pencil advertisements by Paul Gabor via The Silver Lining.

Vintage book cover from here.

Book cover via We Heart It.

A ticket to L'Exposition Coloniale Internationale, Paris, 1931. From here.

Some Thoughts On The Common Toad - designed by David Pearson, illustration by Joe McLaren,

Spare Our Trees poster - the link to this piece is broken - looks like it was produced in the 1930s but then again it could be modern! Beautiful design

This vintage book on "Paper Toys" was found by Scott Balmer, an illustrator in the UK. Wonderful graphics and type treatment.

Inspiration - who do you work with?

Good morning! How are you?
I bought these vintage Turquoise Drawing Pencils for Doug the other day from Mushroom and Moss - thought they might inspire him - there's nothing like having a row of fresh new pencils lined up on your drawing table ready for action! Doug and I have worked together for 16 years - I can't imagine having a better person to work with, he inspires me everyday. I was wondering how many of you also work with your partners? Do you share a studio? Have you worked together for long or is this new for you both? I'm interested to know how you feel about living and working together. Leave me a comment if you have time - thanks!

Artists - Inaluxe

This artist's work is new to me - I spotted these prints at Bloesem this week. Being in the market for art these days I was attracted to these colourful pieces. You can see more of these interesting, mid century inspired pieces by Australian Inaluxe right here.
