The Home Ground

Long time visitor to Cafe Cartolina, Brittany Broas, is set to launch her new jewelry collection on Monday at The Home Ground. This is a pretty special collection, as the stones are all of a very high quality, sourced directly from the cutter who works with his family in India - working directly with the craftsman is very important to Brittany and her work. Each stunning piece is only available in an edition of 5. These pale green earrings and the tiny, rough cut ruby necklace are my favourite . . .

Urbanite Jewelry

I rather fancy these earrings. In fact I rather fancy a few things from Urbanite Jewelry. Their pieces are very inexpensive($12) and really unusual. I bought a cool paisley tunic from the John Robshaw collection at Lucky Brand when I was in SF last week. these black earrings would look very exotic with the indian motif on the fabric - I think I'll treat myself!

I'm loving this sweet little pendant from Anna Humphries. So charming. This is an original watercolour painting that has been permanently sealed under the bezel. Lovely!

Found - mystery necklace

Okay, so open your mind. I think this is cool but I'm not sure why. It's a wee bit deco looking and a wee bit Polynesian. It even feels slightly Scandinavian. Maybe looks like ivory or whale bone? Anyway I think it's cool and would look fab with a mod dress and boots - make those white go-go boots ;-)

Weekend project

It was a very rainy weekend here last weekend. I decided to do some crafty projects that have been haunting me - one of which was this refurbished necklace that I made out of 3 different pieces of broken jewelry. I think it turned out quite well and I'm looking forward to wearing it with this really pretty, cropped jacket that I bought a few weeks ago. So, it started off as 3 pieces - a very long single chain, a bracelet with the moth on it and another bracelet with yellow Austrian crystals. I probably wouldn't have put anything hanging off the moth's wings but the holes were all ready there so I had to use them. I like gold tone jewelry these days. I think it turned out very well and it looks very pretty on :-)

There's so much repro celluloid jewelry out there these days, it's nice to see some originals - at least I think they are originals! From this Etsy seller.

Found - one of a kind

One of a kind necklace from Free People. I'm really drawn to these large flowery pieces that are so popular right now. Probably because I like to wear simple classic clothes(I have a million plain white t shirts) so a great statement piece of jewelry always catches my eye.

Inspiration - Marisol Spoon

Pretty little lockets from Marisol Spoon. These are her own illustrations inside these sweet lockets. I like them. I like gold tones these days and to combine them with pretty imagery, how perfect.

Inspiration - pressed copper

Can you be inspired by these tiny pressed copper treasures - I surely can! I'm certain that these are repros but there sure are a lot to choose from at this website. I don't know what I would do with these but I love the rhythm of the designs - the perfectly lyrical lines that prove that they are repros from originals that were probably produced between 1900 and 1925. For instance check out the mane on this flying seahorse - it's so wonderful in it's simplicity - it reminds me to calm down and introduce simple shapes into complex designs to ground them and solidify the form.
